To reduce memory usage, Maple stores temporary data in a tree file. This slightly increases the size of the tree file. Normally all temporary data is automatically removes from the tree each time you close it. However, if you want to ensure doesn't contains any an unneeded data (for example, for security purposes), use File\Compact command. This will removes an empty space and temporary data from the active tree.
Data compression dramatically reduces file size, but increases the time of saving tree files. To change the compression level, in main menu click Tools\Preferenses and open Database section. This option affects newly created trees only and doesn't change the compression level in existing trees. To apply new compression level to existing tree, use File\Compact. This will recompress the tree with a new compression level.
